What is Student Senate?
Student Senate is a district-wide group of secondary students who come together to share ideas, raise issues, and help shape decisions that impact students across DSBN.
Every secondary school is represented, bringing together diverse student experiences, perspectives, and voices. Student Senate creates a space where students feel heard, valued, and connected to the broader school system.
Why Student Senate Matters
Student Senate plays an important role in strengthening student voice across DSBN. Through Senate, students:
- Share feedback on student experience, well-being, and belonging
- Contribute student perspectives to board initiatives and planning
- Advocate for positive change across schools
- Develop leadership, collaboration, and advocacy skills
Student Senate helps ensure that decisions are informed by the voices of the students they affect.
Who is Involved?
Student Senate is made up of student representatives from each secondary school and is supported by:
- Elected Student Trustees
- The Indigenous Student Trustee
- DSBN staff who support student leadership and well-being
Meetings are student-led, centred on collaboration, and grounded in respect for diverse voices and experiences.
