Registration for DSBN French Immersion takes place during a designated registration period each year. Information about registration dates, eligibility, and the registration process will be posted here when available.

Families interested in French Immersion are encouraged to attend an Information Session to learn more about the program and what to expect.

SECONDARY

DELF Examinations and Diplomas for Grade 12 Students

The Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) is an official diploma awarded by France’s Ministry of National Education to certify the French-language skills of non-native speakers. The diploma is earned by successfully completing one of four DELF proficiency levels. Recognized internationally, the DELF is valid for life.

DSBN Grade 12 students have the opportunity to challenge the DELF and earn an internationally recognized certification of their French-language proficiency. Achieving a DELF diploma can support future educational and career opportunities in Canada and around the world.

French Immersion FAQ

Is French Immersion right for my child?

French Immersion is designed for a wide range of learners. Students do not need prior knowledge of French to participate. Families are encouraged to consider their child’s interests, learning style, and comfort with learning in a second language.

Is it possible for my child to enter French Immersion at a later grade?

DSBN has a single-entry program with French Immersion starting in Grade 1. At this age, children are especially open to learning new languages, making it the perfect time to begin.

How do I know which French Immersion school my child can attend?

To find your French Immersion home school, please enter your home address into our School Locator. Select Advanced Search and filter by French Immersion under All Programs.

In what language does the school communicate information to parents/guardians about a child’s progress?

All communication to parents/guardians is in English.

What if my child experiences difficulty in French Immersion?

Yes. Students can access the full range of supports available in DSBN. These supports help ensure each student gets the support they need to learn and succeed.

Do French Immersion students receive support if they require special programming?

Yes. Students have access to all of the program supports that are available in the DSBN in order to receive an education that is tailored to their specific needs.

Is transportation provided?
