The Indigenous Education Council (IEC) provides guidance to the DSBN in building meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities and strengthening supports for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis student achievement and well-being. The IEC helps the board share information, identify promising practices, and deepen collaboration across the system.
The DSBN values the knowledge and leadership that comes from working alongside community. The council includes Indigenous youth, Indigenous agencies, Indigenous parents, an Elder, representatives from post-secondary institutions, and DSBN staff. Established in March 2008, the IEC continues to play an important role in shaping Indigenous education at DSBN.
